Ingredients

  • 3 cups ripe papaya, cubed
  • 1 to 1½ cups cold water
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • ½ to 1 inch fresh ginger, peeled (optional)
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons honey or maple syrup (optional)
  • Pinch of salt (optional)
  • Ice, for serving (optional)

Instructions

Instructions

  • Peel the ripe papaya, slice it lengthwise, scoop out the seeds, and cut the flesh into chunks.
  • Add papaya, 1 cup cold water, lime juice, and ginger to a blender and blend on high until smooth and silky.
  • Taste and adjust by adding more water for a lighter consistency, sweetener if needed, and a tiny pinch of salt to round the flavors.
  • For a smoother texture, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve, pressing to extract more liquid, or skip straining for more fiber.
  • Pour over ice and serve immediately with an extra squeeze of lime if desired.

Notes

Adjust water for preferred thickness; use coconut water for added electrolytes. Store in an airtight jar in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours and shake before drinking. Freeze leftovers in ice cube trays for up to 1 month and reblend with water. Choose a ripe, orange-fleshed papaya for best flavor and avoid blending the seeds unless you like a peppery note.
